Annual Ambassadors Week finished in Tallinn. It’s a meeting to discuss and set key priorities of Estonian foreign policy. Ambassador of Estonia to Ukraine Kaimo Kuusk together with his colleagues from more than 40 countries met members of Riigikogu and government, and visited 1st Estonian infantry brigade and our NATO allies in Tapa.
Ukraine remains among Estonian top priorities. As soon as Ukraine meets EU membership criteria, Estonia supports its accession as it was declared in Joint Statement on priority areas of bilateral cooperation signed by the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
Kaimo Kuusk believes that if Ukraine continues reforming, joining EU may happen in less than 10 years for the country. However, if reforms stop, the countdown will stop, too.
“The question of NATO membership is already decided in principal. Now Ukraine together with allies needs to work hard to make it happen as soon as possible”, says Kaimo Kuusk.
Also, Estonia continues to enhance economic cooperation with Ukraine. The most imminent project is electronic border crossing. “We really hope it will start in coming months”, the Ambassador adds.
