The Ministry of Foreign Affairs allocated 959,650 euros to the strategic humanitarian partners of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist Ukraine in 2023. The goal is to support Ukrainians, internally displaced persons, and refugees in Georgia and Moldova and to provide solutions as quickly and effectively as possible.
“Humanitarian aid is part of Estonia’s comprehensive assistance to Ukraine. Through the aid, we support Ukraine and Ukrainians in coping with the consequences of Russia’s aggression and getting on with their lives, including the continuation of education despite the war. We are also helping Ukraine to respond to the impact of ongoing attacks on the civilian population,” said Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
A total of 315,600 euros will be allocated to the Estonian Rescue Board to send foam-based fire extinguishers to Ukraine for dealing with infrastructure fires. MTÜ Eesti Pagulasabi will receive 400,000 euros for financial assistance. In Ukraine, financial assistance is provided to improve the self-sufficiency of households that are wholly or partly dependent on agricultural activities for their subsistence and multi-purpose financial assistance to the most vulnerable households. MTÜ Mondo will receive 244,050 euros for the urgent and light repair of two schools in the Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts to send children back to school in September 2023. In addition, training on digital competences and psychosocial support for teachers will be provided in schools.
The Russian war of aggression has had a strong humanitarian impact on Ukraine, with the UN estimating that more than 17 million people will be needing humanitarian assistance in Ukraine in 2023. The most vulnerable groups include women, children, people close to the front line, and internally displaced people.
