President of Estonia Alar Karis had a phone call with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The conversation between Presidents of Ukraine and Estonia took place on July 28. Alar Karis expressed his condolences on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Ukraine, members of volunteer formations, and civilians who were executed, tortured, or died in captivity.

The Presidents of Ukraine and Estonia discussed Ukraine’s anti-corruption infrastructure. Alar Karis noted that the fight against corruption and the independence of the relevant institutions are important cornerstones of the democracy. This is also directly related to the EU enlargement process and the rule of law and corruption are extremely important in this context.

The Presidents talked about military support and the supply of new weapons systems. Volodymyr Zelensky underlined that Ukrainian defence industry would require investments, in which the West is expected to be more active.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Alar Karis for his support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people. Ukrainian President highlighted Estonia’s contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, in particular the decision to allocate 0.25% of the country’s GDP annually for the defense needs of Ukraine, leadership in the IT Coalition, and the training and rehabilitation of Ukrainian warriors. The leaders discussed scaling up these areas of cooperation to further support the people of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited Alar Karis to visit Ukraine.
