Estonian Ambassador to Ukraine Annely Kolk took part in the opening of a new facility for boys in the Novoborivskyi boarding school in Zhytomyr Oblast. The building was reconstructed with a support of Estonia. The ceremony, which took place on August 8, was also attended by local officials, including Head of Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration Vitaliy Bunechko and members of the Verkovna Rada.

“On behalf of the Estonian Embassy in Kyiv I’m honoured and touched to open the new facility with our help. The new facility helps to create comfortable stay and growth of children and all young people who most need it,“ stated Ambassador Annely Kolk.

“Since the first days of the full-scale war, Estonia has been there for us and today, thanks to Estonia, we are opening a new department in the boarding school. Thank you for your support, thank you for always being there,“ added Head of Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration Vitaliy Bunechko.
Ambassador Annely Kolk talked to children and visited new premises, which will accommodate 16 boys aged 4 to 18. The building has four rooms for comfortable living, also leisure room, hygiene rooms, etc. The foundation was poured in January, all construction work lasted almost seven months. In addition to Estonia, the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration and volunteers joined this project.

Ambassador Annely Kolk presented the institution with a doll of Sipsik, who is the hero of an Estonian children’s book, and also left her best wishes in a book for the employees and more then 80 residents of the boarding school – children aged 5 to 18 and young people who are already over 18. All of them have different levels of disabilities, some cannot move independently, some of the children are orphans or deprived of parental care.

During her visit to the Novoborivsk community, Ambassador Annely Kolk also honored the memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine by laying flowers at the memorial.
