First Lady of Estonia Sirje Karis paid a visit to Ukraine and participated in the Fifth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in Kyiv. The spouse of President Alar Karis, shared Estonia’s experience and spoke about how innovation in education can help build up resilience, support creativity and promote peace. “Education is the strongest tool we have, and can help turn a crisis into an opportunity,” she said. “Estonia is happy to share its experience and to join Ukraine on the path of educational innovation.”

In addition to attending the Summit, Sirje Karis visited the National Art Museum of Ukraine, where the importance of museums in providing non-formal education and supporting mental health was discussed.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the Order of Princess Olga, I class, to First Lady of Estonia. The spouses of the leaders of Finland and Denmark, who were attending the Summit in Kyiv at the invitation of Olena Zelenska, have also been honoured with state decorations.

First Lady of Estonia Sirje Karis also visited the Regional Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children «Sunny House» in Zhytomyr and laid the cornerstone of a new bomb shelter for up to 75 people – the newest Estonian–Ukrainian cooperation project. And also opened kood/Zhytomyr educational project at the Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University, which gives new opportunities in the IT field for Ukrainians and creates a foundation for the country’s digital transformation.
